Dear Producers,

Third Coast has a big transition coming up and I’d like you to hear the news straight from us.
Artistic Director Julie Shapiro has made a tough, carefully considered decision to chart a new chapter in her working career, and will leave Third Coast in late fall.
She still believes mightily in the work/mission of Third Coast, but she’s ready for a new set of challenges and experiences.
As Julie says
“I thought long and hard (and then longer, and harder) about this, but ultimately realized it’s time to move on and try something different with the next phase of my life.
I don’t really have the words to describe the past thirteen+ years with the Festival, but these first come to mind: empowering, profound, sparkly.
.
It’s been an honor beyond the beyond to have worked so closely with Johanna from day one, and Katie and Gwen over the years, and to have connected with so many amazing people from the audio community worldwide.”
Julie and I founded the Third Coast together in 2000, and she helped create everything that you love about the project/organization.
From the ShortDocs Challenge, which she envisioned (and enthusiastically re-imagines each year), to the delightfully warm/sassy tone she strikes writing for thirdcoastfestival.org, Julie’s artistic vision, keen wit, and deft writing skills are evident at every turn.
.
Likewise, Julie has been the consummate ambassador for Third Coast, forging lasting relationships in her international travels. I know that many of you reading this have benefitted from her generous spirit and wise counsel.
Julie will leave mid-November after the Third Coast Filmless Festival and our national broadcast of the year’s award-winning radio stories (Best of the Best) are complete. We wish her the absolute best!
.
Today we start looking for a new artistic director, and you’ll find the job description on our website. Please help us spread the world among the bright, creative, hardworking, audio/radio doc–loving people you know. Thanks, as always, for your incredible support.
Yrs,

Johanna Zorn
Executive Director
