Welcome to VIENNA and to the 42nd edition of the International Features Conference!
The 2016 IFC will take place at the ORF FUNKHAUS in Vienna, from Sunday, 8 May to Thursday, 12 May 2016.
The International Features Conference is a forum for programme makers, young and old, who love the art – and the craft – of the radio Feature. They come together once a year from all corners of the globe to celebrate the highest form of factual radio. It’s an opportunity first and foremost to listen to and discuss programmes.
On show in Vienna will be the very best Features made by some of the best producers and directors working today in radio and on the new online and digital platforms.
In additional breakfast workshops, we will offer the chance to learn from experienced Feature producers some of the tips and techniques they have acquired over the years.
But the IFC is above all also a place for innovation and originality, for newcomers who are taking their first steps in the genre or experimenting with sound stories in different forms, on different platforms and with different resources.
To guarantee the high quality of programmes presented and a wide range of entries, there will be a pre-selection process. We would ask you to pay special attention to the accompanying documentation, which outlines how to participate and enter programmes, plus all the relevant deadlines – in one case very imminent – and other details.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Vienna!

IMPORTANT DEADLINES
CONTRIBUTING PROGRAMMES
The heart of the International Features Conference is to listen to the latest and best documentary productions from around the world. These productions are then discussed and given a frank and honest feedback.
It’s not a competition, so no prizes are awarded, it is simply an opportunity to share some great stories and wonderful programme making.
Each year, the number of Features suggested for inclusion in the IFC considerably exceeds the time available to listen to them, so, regretfully, we have to make a choice.
If you want your programme to be considered for inclusion in the Conference programme, please send us your suggestion before the deadline of:
Friday 12 February 2016
Your contribution should consist of:
a ten-minute audio excerpt of the programme that you would like to submit
an exact English-language translation of the excerpt
a synopsis of the production and the reason why you think it is relevant to the IFC.
1. Upload the entry (audio/scripts) to the SoundCloud website: http://soundcloud.com [Including your English translation (in pdf) into the SoundCloud field: ‘Description’]
2. Register via: http://ifc16.eventbrite.com (Submit your SoundCloud URL and personal info)
3. Please also SEND your English translation, the synopsis, your reason for submission and all other information to: regina.uttenthaler@orf.at
(All of these documents should be sent only as PDF files, ensuring that they are in a print-friendly format)
ACCOMMODATION
The ORF FUNKHAUS is located in the 4th district of Vienna between the main railway station and the city center.
We have pre-arranged accommodation at six hotels in the 3rd, 4th and 11th district Most of them are within walking distance to ORF FUNKHAUS or at least easy to reach with the tram D.
