17th January we celebrate ART’S BIRTHDAY with a great EBU-satellite radio happening again!
“Art’s Birthday” is an annual event first proposed in 1963 by French artist Robert Filliou.
He suggested that 1,000,000 years ago, there was no art.
But one day, on the 17th of January to be precise, Art was born.
According to Filliou, it happened when someone dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water.
Filliou proposed a public holiday to celebrate the presence of art in our lives.
In recent years, the idea has been taken up by a loose network of artists and friends around the world.
Each year the Eternal Network evolves to include new partners – working with the ideas of exchange and telecommunications-art.
Antwerp has its 10 Art’s Birthday radio event this year!
The picture of Robert Filliou with a paper hat is very well known.
We created a website to celebrate Art’s Birthday and the act of folding paper hats.
If you send us a nice photograph of a hat you have fold we would be honoured to include your hat in our online collection.
To celebrate 10 years of ART’S BIRTHDAY in Antwerp, the best hat will win a unique pure golden hat hand folded by the Belgian master goldsmith Jean Marie Hoegaerts.
A jury will select the winning hat on the 18/01/2015 and the golden miniature will be sent soon after the announcement on our site.
