RADIO DRAMA ORIGINAL

Italy – RADIO 24: ‘Little Thumb’

JURY REPORT: Around the year 1700 was written a fairy tale about a young boy – large as a thumb – that, with all his 6 brothers, left behind by his parents, because the life was very poor.
Meanwhile in 2011, that’ s nothing special!
That makes LITTLE THUMB evident, in a refreshing and energetic radio drama, full of humour.
Here are radio people at work with a message, who have found the key to make a brilliant production from the beginning to the end.

SCRIPT (eng)

SOUND (org)

“Little thumb” is a radio drama based on Charles Perrault’s well known story. Little thumb is a child who lives with his six brothers in a poverty stricken country always at war. He decides to emigrate to Europe, apart from needing money to leave, he knows that he also needs to be very clever once he arrives in Europe, where he has to go through bureaucratic procedures to avoid being classified as an “illegal immigrant” and obtain the refugee status instead. The adventures that “little thumb-refugee” goes through before he’s able to insure himself a future of freedom and wealth are the same one finds in the original tale, but seen through the eyes of an immigrant. An allegory of the true drama thousands of people escaping wars and dictatorships live every day. But written with no rhetorical accent and with a twist of black humor. The radio drama formula includes an original score specifically composed.”

RADIO DRAMA ADAPTED

‘Aunt Julia and The Scriptwriter’ by Mario Vargas Llosa

Sweden SR

JURY REPORT:  The adaptation of a novel made by Mario Vargas Llosa is turned into a vivid amusing play. The atmosphere of the Latin World is here, we can hear, smell and taste it. Sound design is very visual, putting us back to the 50’ies.

We have here all the elements of radio soap opera, an impossible love affair and well made characters andyou will never think that isn’t originally written as a radio drama.
