Radio Diaries: 15 Years of Stories
Dear Friends of Radio Diaries,
In 2010, Radio Diarieswill be turning 15. Back in 1995, we began giving tape recorders to teenagers, and since that time Radio Diaries has helped to pioneer a model for working with people to document their own lives. This coming year, we are launching a brand new series of audio diaries and first-person documentaries on public radio. Here are some of the stories we’re working on:
A young girl keeps an audio diary of her first year in the military.
A woman investigates the case of her grandfather, who was executed in 1951
in Mississippi’s traveling electric chair.
A man lives out of his car in the California desert.
A woman records a diary of her job at one of the largest investment banksin the world.
A teenager in Cuba secretly chronicles daily life in a country in transition.
We are proud of the way we tell stories; stepping aside and letting people speak for themselves. And we need your help. We need to raise an additional
$25,000 by the new year to meet our goal and launch this new series.
You’ll be hearing a lot more from us in 2010.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
