Include your views
Dear Colleagues,
The EBU Features Group will meet in Berlin on 13th October to start the planning process for the 2008 International Features Conference in Varna.
We would very much like to include your views in our discussion. Some of you have already communicated your thoughts via the 2007 post-IFC questionnaire.
If you’ve had further thoughts on the structure or the content of the next International Features Conference, or if you didn’t have the opportunity to complete the 2007 questionnaire,
please email me at harrisl@rte.ie by Monday, 8th October at the latest.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Lorelei Harris

This is a new edition of SilenceRadio.org.
Hello everybody,
This edition looks almost normal and at the same time it’s rather special: it’s actually one and a half richer than usual and it’s offering you a pre-hear of the Radiophonic 2007 festival, 25-28 october in Brussels.
We asked the festival artists to produce a piece specially intended to SilenceRadio.org. After listening, we’ve been surprised to hear that all these different pieces have something to do with each other although they were made in such diverse conditions.
From a piece to another, some sounds are reappearing, transmitting moods by contagion…
Now point to point linked one by one, a flow is beginning to exist: maybe it’s another radio?
Listen now: http://www.silenceradio.org
(or jump back to the french part if you want to listen to a particuliar piece)
… Have a beautiful listening and see you soon -for real!- at Radiophonic 2007 with Anna Friz, Phil Minton, a tribute to Luc Ferrari, Jérôme Joy, Dinahbird, la Brocante Sonore (Jacques Foschia, Anthony Carcone, etc.), Chantal Dumas, Radia, Els Viaene, Warpzone Radio (Lucille Calmel, Sebastian Dicenaire, Vincent Tholomé, Maja Jantar, etc.), Martiens Go Home, Christophe Rault, Raymond Clamard, Caroline, Ars Acustica (EBU), Christophe Deleu, Jay Needham, Clément Laloy, Tetsuo Kogawa, Ici-même, etc. etc.
From the 25rd to the 28th of october in Brussels and on the web.

The third ‘Radio Day of European Cultures’ on 14 October 2007, Berlin
For the third Radio Day of European Cultures on 14 October 2007 PRIX EUROPA and the EBU Radio have installed a Web site with a blog I am Europe – Collecting Voices from Europe.
We want to give you an additional tool for a dialogue and a new platform for reflecting the different points of view of individuals living in Europe. It raises the question of the European identity: How do I see Europe? What does it mean to me? Do I identify with it or not at all? What is European about my life, my perception? Or is it European at all?
The platform is designed to give an exciting insight into all sorts of corners and opinions and could provide very interesting material for programmes dealing with European themes and The Radio Day of European Cultures.
It can also be used as an interactive instrument for audiences on the Radio Day of European Cultures by calling people to express themselves on the blog.
If you need a trailer for this, you will find one on the blog itself – ready to be downloaded.
This can also be done immediately by setting a link to the blog from the broadcaster’s website.
It could even serve as an instigator of dialogue between an editor and his audience – if the editor wants to blog himself.
If he wants to blog regularly we can put him on the Blogger List. Send an email to radioday@prix-europa.de .
To start with, the blog introduces four Unusual Europeans including podcast material. This may also be used by the broadcasters. The Unusual Europeans will also blog. They are from Paris, Moscow, Tuzla (Bosnia) and Berlin and all have unusual occupations.
More information on www.radiodayweb.eu .
The technical side:
The blog has been kept as simple as possible. If you want to join a dialogue on a certain theme, just go to the form at the bottom, fill in your nickname – and start blogging.
Don’t forget to submitit at the end. It will be published as soon as the editor goes into the back office next (to avoid great uncontrollable spam attacks we have had to build in this one control instrument).
If you want to start a new theme, just write “new theme“ in the headline of the form and the editor will create it for you.
The blog will be online until April 2008.
Kindest regards.
Raina Konstantinova and Peter Leonhard Braun

TCF Conference – Registration Deadline October 15th
Because we know how deadlines can sneak up, here’s a gentle nudge…
We’re officially just one month out from the TCF Conference, which means the final deadline for registration (October 15th) will be here in no time.
However, the deadline for reserving a hotel room at the Chicago City Centr and Sports Club (where the conference will be held) is sooner – October 10th – so you may want to just go ahead and take care of everything now.
Here’s more information about the conference, and links to a conference registration form and the hotel’s reservation form:
www.thirdcoastfestival.org/annual_conference_2007_info.asp
Don’t miss this chance to join hundreds of other producers, reporters, documentarians and artists for three days of pure immersion into the world of radio production and storytelling and general audio hoopla! Register NOW!
[We promise – this is much more fun than contacting us after the deadline to ask if you can still somehow register.]
See you soon,
TCF
Hurrah !
The newly created “Axel-Eggebrecht-Preis“, which from now on will be awarded every second year for life long achievements in the field of radio documentary in the German speaking countries, goes to Helmut Kopetzky. (photo)
A. Eggebrecht was one of the most influential representatives of after-war-radio-feature in Germany, a journalist and writer of political integrity and formal brilliance, who died 1991 aged 92.
Kopetzky, born in 1940 in former Czecho-Slovakia and deported with the German speaking population in 1946, has more than 100 hour-long radio features, feature serials and radio plays on his credit and has been member of the IFC project group for a couple of years. Currently he also works as coach for the EBU Master School.
From a letter to the webmaster: “Heidrun” (his wife) “deserves at least one half of this decoration and additionally an extra compensation for personal bravery and occasional suffering”. They have been working together for nearly 35 years by now
