Thanksa lot Hannu and Peter.
(Thanks)

So the new EBU Radio Features Project Group was elected. Already before that we said good bye to Hannu Karisto (YLE, Finland) and Peter Klein (ORF, Austria).
They had chosen not to be a candidate for these elections.
For many years they both were very active and inspiring members of the organising group of the Feature Conference, they were the presenters of a lot of programs, workshops and presentations.
We thank them for what they did, the time and craftsmanship they gave us.

It is not a farewell.
We will see Peter Klein as our organising person for the IFC 2006 in Vienna (starts at April 29 2006 in Vienna).
Hannu Karisto will be participating the IFC as well, he promised. So: see you next time!

Vincent van Merwijk, chairman

We’re 5!!The Third Coast International Audio Festival is now accepting entries for our fifth annual Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition.
Please visit www.thirdcoastfestival.org to download an entry form, and learn more about competition guidelines.

(We’re 5)

We’re looking for stories that document a place, time, person, event, phenomenon or issue. These include but are not limited to investigative reports, narrative stories, personal essays and audio portraits. Entries must be 2-60 minutes in length, and must have been presented publicly on the radio, the Internet, or in a gallery / museum setting between July 2003 and July 2005. Awards are given in the following categories: Best Documentary, Best New Artist and Radio Impact. Early deadline for entries is July 8; the late deadline is (postmarked) July 22.

Winners will receive up to $6000 to support future creative efforts, and winning entries will be included as part of the national Third Coast Festival Broadcast, in November. Other outstanding competition entries will be considered for the TCF’s weekly radio program Re:sound, at Festival listening events and at thirdcoastfestival.org.

But wait, there’s more:

We’re also accepting nominations for our Audio Luminary Award (formerly known as the Lifetime Achievement Award.) This award is presented to a person who has not only left a profound mark on the audio field, but continues to be a source of new ideas and inspiration. As in previous years, a committee of producers/leaders in the field will join the Third Coast Festival staff in selecting the winner from a slate of nominations submitted by radio fans, producers and other radio professionals worldwide. You’ll find nomination forms and information about past winners at thirdcoastfestival.org

Contact info@thirdcoastfestival.org or call 312.948.4682 with any questions about the competition, or about nominating someone for the ALA.

We look forward to hearing your stories!

Regards,
Third Coast Festival Staff

You probably remember that Kaye presented a piece from Yann Paranthoën during her last session.
I thought it was really nice and interesting.
As Kaye said during her intro, Yann Paranthoën is not very well-known outside France.
However, in France (and francophone Switzerland/Belgium), he was considered as a league-division one documentary maker.
I am not saying the greatest, even though you can read this on various obituaries.

Anyhow, I don’t know if it’s a good idea, but you could maybe put something on the Website.
Biography: http://www.radiofrance.fr/chaines/france-culture/dossiers/2005/yann/?pid=75000036 (in French)

Piece played by Kaye (L’effraie/The screech Owl) is available on MP3 here:

One of his great prod., called Lulu, has been put onto CD and is available there:

All the best,

Laurent.

Forgot to mention that he also did a fantastic prog. about Paris-Roubaix
